India is a land of historical richness, cultural wealth and a nation that has no dearth of wisdom. Our country has been bestowed with leaders, thinkers and philosophers from all walks of life since time immemorial. This is where the world saw Emperor Ashoka, Vivekananda, Gautam Buddha, Chanakya, Mahatma Gandhi, Mother Teresa to the icons of wisdom in today’s world like Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam, Atal Bihari Vajpayee and similar others.
I recently read the book, ‘Chanakya in You’ by Radhakrishna Pillai and must admit it moved me completely. One of those books that make you question and help you generate the answers too.
The book delves into the teachings of Chanakya and takes you through the various aspects of Arthashastra. It helps you ponder on how you can mould yourself and give a direction to your life; so as to think like a leader and act like one too.
The ‘Guru-Shishya’ mode of learning was at its peak during the bygone years and was a very strong education methodology. Today, the entire education sector has undergone a complete makeover but the roots stay the same.
To progress and excel, thorough study is a must. Unless you get curious to know more, the search doesn’t continue. The book delves on how you should evaluate your present to plan your future.
The book made me think and for me this was something new. I am an avid reader but rarely do I just lie down and close my eyes, recalling what I read and relate it to my life. ‘Chankya in You’ made me do just that! It made me wonder what I was doing with my life; and how important it is to not just live for the present but align the present with the future and thus make the journey successful.
Chanakya has given various insights into life, relationships, success, money, goals, vices and strengths. One ‘Chanakya Niti’ that I consider perfect:
“For the first five years, love your child, for the next ten years discipline them, and after that, consider them your friends.”
I recommend this book to all those who wish to give their lives a direction and are still clueless about the ‘How’, ‘Why’ and ‘When’ factors.
This is definitely a must read for the youth of today as they are the leaders of tomorrow!
